Faith Filled Friday: What Does God Expect From Us?

The most important thing that I believe God expects from us is to accept His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, as our Savior. John 3:16-18 tells us the God so loved the world that he gave us his only begotten son; that those who believe in him will have eternal life and that the world through him might be saved.

I accepted Jesus as my savior when I was young and made a formal proclamation in church when I was twelve. I knew I was supposed to tell others about God’s love and Jesus’ saving grace. There are lots of verses that tell us that: John 3:3, 7; 6:35; 11:25-26; Acts 16:30-31; and Romans 3:23-25; 6:23. There are still a lot more than the few I listed.

As Christians we should:

Continue to love him and grow in grace

In Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus is talking in those verses. He says that we should love the Lord with all our heart, soul, and mind. Loving God is the first and great commandment. The next commandment is that we should love our neighbor like ourselves.

In Romans 8:15-16 we are told that we receive the Spirit of adoption and have become a child of God.

But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ… 2 Peter 3:18

If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Galatians 5:25

Be obedient and also ask forgiveness

But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Matthew 4:4

Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them for they know not what they do… Luke 23:34 This had to be the hardest time to ask forgiveness for anyone, even for Jesus.

John 8:29 shares with us that even Jesus did those things that please God.

Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children… Ephesians 5:1

In 2 Corinthians 2:7 we are supposed to forgive and comfort the person even if we don’t’ feel like it. That is a tall order sometimes, isn’t it?

Pray to him

There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Proverbs 14:12. Sometimes things seem right to us but we’re not certain. That is one of those times you definitely want to talk to the Lord about it.

Matthew 6:9-13 is The Lord’s Prayer

Romans 8:26-27 lets us know that Spirit will make intercession for us with groanings that can’t be uttered so we should not feel like we are not praying right. I’m sure God hears our words, but I think he sees what is in our hearts better.

How often do you stop what you are doing and simple say thank-you to the Lord for the sunshine or even a gentle rain? At a stoplight do you take a moment to thank the Lord for your safety? When you are shopping and find a few items you wanted on sale, do you smile and thank the Lord?

Share Jesus with others

Sharing God’s love is not as easy as it should be. It’s not hard either. I’m always afraid I’ll forget which verse is best and I rarely can remember where it’s found in the Bible. Read Romans 10:9-15 for some encouragement.
