Bible Verses to Help You and Your Children

Children can bring us joy and a sense of purpose, but they also can be frustrating and annoying.

I was one of 6 in my family – 5 girls and 1 boy. My brother and I were only 9 months apart so we did a lot together. He did not play dolls with me, but I built forts and climbed trees with him. We played baseball with some of the other kids in the trailer park but there was not enough to make one full team let alone two. As luck would have it most of the other kids were girls, too.

That aside I wish I had thought about reading verses in the Bible aimed at children and their parents. I am sure it would have helped me get through some rough times when I was growing up and when I was raising my own three sons.

Proverbs 22:6 is probably the most common verse. Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.

We should rely on our Father in heaven to be our protector and help us understand our children.

Psalm 36: 7-9 How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of they wings.

They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.

For with thee is the fountain of life; in thy light shall we see light.

Proverbs 18:10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous runneth into it and is safe.

Mark 10:13-16 And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them; and his disciples rebuked those that brought them.

But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not; for of such is the kingdom of God.

Verily I say unto you, whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.

And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.

We should rely on our Father in heaven to help us with our daily struggles.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding.

In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths.

Be not wise in thine own eyes; fear the Lord and depart from evil.

Matthew 18:1-5 At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?

And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,

And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.

Caring and Compassion

John 3:16 is a verse everyone should memorize. It’s a comfort in times of trouble and doubt.

Psalm 103:13 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that ear him.

Ephesians 5:1-2 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;

And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

God loves us and we are his children. There are many verses in the Bible which tell us about his love. My favorite verse is John 3:16

John 1:1-12 are the reassuring words of God about how much he cares for us.

Ephesians 3:17-19 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,

May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;

And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.

It’s great to have God with me and helping me get through the chaos and confusion of this world. Read John 15: 4-8.

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 And he said unto me, ‘My grace is sufficient for thee; for my strength is made perfect in weakness.’ Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

1 John 3:1-2 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God; therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be, but we know that when he shall appear, we shall be like him for we shall see him as his is.
