Faith Filled Friday: In the Mood

November 27, 2021

How many times have you said or heard someone say, “I’m not in the mood?”

What about Jesus? What emotions or moods does the Bible tell us that Jesus felt? Here are a few examples.

This is probably the mood Jesus shared with us the most.

Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and everyone that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God for God is love. 1 John 4:7, 8

Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his son to be the propitiation for our sins. 1 John 4:10

We love him because he first loved us. 1 John 4:19

For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13

Jesus showed compassion through his healing. There are many examples of this throughout the Bible. Matthew 8:1-17 gives several examples including the healing of the centurion’s servant, which he performed over a distance.

John 19:26-27 tells us that while Jesus hung on the cross he made arrangements for his mother to be taken care of after he was gone.

Jesus tells us in John 15:11, These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you and that your joy might be full.

Jesus wept when his friend Lazarus died even though he knew he was going to raise him from the dead. Read the story in John 11:1-44.

Several disciples rebuked people who brought their children to Jesus. Jesus was displeased at the disciples’ action. Read John 10:13-15.

Jesus’ words in Matthew 23:33 sound harsh and angry: Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

In John 2:14-17, Jesus found animals and money changers in the temple. He made a scourge of small cords and drove all of them out.

Jesus himself did not worry nor have anxiety. He shares with us what to do if we are experiencing those feelings. Read Matthew 6:25–34 for Jesus’ teaching on worry. According to 1 John 4:18, there is no fear in love.

Let me end with God’s reassurance: Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41:10
