John 14:1-7

1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

4 And whither I go ye know and the way ye know.

5 Thomas saith unto him, “Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?”

6 Jesus saith unto him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

7 “If ye had known me, ye should have known my father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.”

Jesus is talking to his disciples, but the message is for all of us. There are hundreds of different religions here on earth. Some people say it is impossible to know which one is right. I believe in God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit; therefore, I believe that accepting Jesus Christ as my Savior by asking forgiveness for my sins and inviting Him into my heart is the only way to get to heaven. That is also what my Bible says, which is God’s word.

Some people feel that they will lose control over their life if they have Jesus in their heart. The devil will tempt you, but it is your choice what to do. You can listen to the devil and give the church bigger donations and volunteer your time to help them paint the fellowship hall. But none of that will get you into heaven. And the devil will be delighted to have you join him in hell.

After you have Jesus in your heart your actions help earn your crowns when you get to heaven: things like witnessing, reading your Bible, prayers, and tithing. There’s probably more that God takes into consideration and the list might be a lot longer than we’re aware of.

There are a lot of people who believe it is the things they do that get them into heaven. They think by doing lots of good deeds, giving lots of money to the church, singing in the choir, and reading their Bible is their ticket to heaven.

That is not what Jesus said in verse 6 where he tells us that he is the way. It is that simple. Ask Jesus to forgive you and come into your heart.

Just remember, doing all those good deeds will not get you into heaven, but that does not mean that you should not do things. Those things help you earn your crowns.

You may have experienced loss of a loved one, so you asked Jesus into your heart.

Your worries and fears weight a ton, so you asked Jesus into your heart.

You may be depressed or simply feeling blue, so you asked Jesus into your heart.

You may have lost your job and don’t know what to do, so you asked Jesus into your heart.

You may be feeling lonely or lost, so you asked Jesus into your heart.

You may feel the need to know Jesus and don’t care the cost, so you asked Jesus into your heart.

You heard the testimony of a Christian that made you feel the need to get saved, so you asked Jesus into your heart.

Remember: Being good won’t save you. You can’t save yourself.

Only Jesus saves. There is no salvation outside of Jesus Christ!
