Faith Filled Friday, February 5, 2021

A couple days ago a friend and I were talking about COVID. She was worried she would get it since it seemed so many around her had it. I told her that I had prayed hard about it and trusted in the Lord that I would not get it.

She replied, “Believing you won’t get it won’t stop it.”

“I’d like to think that He will honor his word.”

Her response, “Trust and faith are nice to have, but they don’t mean anything.”

Trust, belief, and faith, what do they mean? Can you ever have enough? Are they just words?

She is a born-again Christian, but I was sorry to hear her belittle the basics of most religions.

I was one of six kids and lived in a trailer park until I was nine. I liked going to church most of the time because Sunday school class was fun. I heard Bible stories and got to make a craft, usually a picture to color. The best part were the stories about Jesus. I was so glad to have Jesus as a friend and someone who loved me.

During the summer months I would cross the highway and go up the little hill that was behind the gas station. There was a small clearing and a flat-topped rock in the middle which was perfect for a little girl to sit on and pour her heart out to Jesus. I learned to trust and believe in Jesus at a very young age. I have relied on Jesus many times over lifetime.

According to my dictionary, trust is a confident reliance on the integrity, honesty, or justice of another; faith.

Belief is the acceptance of the truth or actuality of anything without certain proof; Something held to be true or actual; Trust in another person; confidence.

Faith is confidence in or dependence on a person, statement, or thing as trustworthy; Belief without need of certain proof; Belief in God or in the Scriptures or other religious writings.

We could include hope also: To desire with expectation; to wish or want; to continue hoping even when it might be in vain.

There is not a lot of difference between all the words and their definitions. It seems like they all go hand in hand. The Bible gives us lots of verses on all those subjects.

Hope and Faith: Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. Jeremiah 17:7

More: Philippians 4:13; Romans 5:2-5; 15:13; 2 Corinthians 4:16-18; Hebrews 10:22-23; Psalm 33:18; Psalm 39:7: Isaiah 41:10;

Faith and Trust: Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1

More: Psalm 62:1-2; Psalm 27:1; Psalm 46:1; Hebrews 11:6

Belief: I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Philippians 4:13

More: Matthew 14:25-31; Romans 8:22-25

I can not imagine my world without Jesus’ love and salvation. I hope and pray you will learn to rely on Jesus; to trust and love him; and to ask him into your heart today.
