Faith Filled Friday: Bible Verses to Help in Times of Fear

June 13, 2020

by Connie Terpack

I was startled by a spider the other day. It was a large black one on the bathroom floor. I had room to walk past him, but as I stepped beside him he jumped onto my shoe. I screamed, jumped and kicked my foot out. He flew off and I lost sight of him. My nature call was too strong to ignore any longer.
I was surprised I could jump that high. I went back to the kitchen and saw him there. He looked injured and I did not want him to suffer. It makes no sense why spiders are so scary.
The following verses are more for the deeper fears that we have, not the little spider scares. These are all from KJV.

Fear of Being Rejected
Romans 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.
1 Peter 2:4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen by God, and precious.
1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:

Fear of Not Finishing the Job
2 Corinthians 8:11 Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have.
Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Christ Jesus.
Philippians 3:14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Fear of Not Being Good Enough
2 Corinthians 3:5 Not that we think we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God.
2 Corinthians 12:9 And he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for thee, for my strength is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

That Feeling of Fear
Genesis 15:1 After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
Genesis 26:24a And the Lord appeared unto him the same night, and said, I am the God of Abraham thy father: fear not, for I am with thee…
Psalm 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Remember when fear fills your heart take a deep breath then pray. Ask God for protection and assurance. Read your Bible and pray some more.
