The Old Rocking Chair

May 10, 2020

This was written by Ruby, an old friend of mine. She gave me this poem a long time ago. I wonder if we will have rocking chairs in heaven. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. Happy Mother’s Day! ~ Connie

Sitting alone in an old rocking chair
Sat an old lady with silvery hair
She seems so neglected by those who should care
Sitting alone in an old rocking chair

Bless her old heart she is growing so old
But you should hear some of the stories she’s told
But I think of angels as I see her there
Sitting alone in an old rocking chair

She sits and she waits for the phone just to ring
A call from her children would mean everything
But she knows they love her and she knows that they care
Sitting alone in an old rocking chair

Her children don’t know but in the wee hours of morn
She’s praying for God to save them and keep them from harm
She knows they are busy, but she knows they still care
Sitting alone in an old rocking chair

One day real soon the sweet angels will come
They’ll take her to heaven to her new home
Forever with Jesus who will always care
She’ll never be alone in an old rocking chair
