Summer’s Surrender

September 29, 2019

I’ve always loved Nat King Cole. On this blog he sings Autumn Leaves in French. I have forgotten most of my high school French, but it was still delightful to hear him sing.

Charmed Chaos

“Night, which in Autumn seems to fall from the sky so suddenly, chilled us…”
― Jules Barbey d’Aurevilly, The Crimson Curtain

yields to autumn
in riotous colors
wood thrush gold, crimson red, russet
leaves fall
surrendering to umber earth
as harvest moon shines bright
welcoming cool

Author’s Note:For fall, I used ‘yields’, and for give I used ‘surrendering.’

  1. Beautifully sung by Nat King Cole. While listening and watching the video clip I was able to reminisce about my visits to Paris in 2004 and 2007. I do love the colours of Autumn.
