Faith Filled Friday: God’s Verses to Me

March 15, 2019

by Connie Terpack

This was not the first time I’ve asked God to point me in the right direction by sharing a Bible verse with me. Sometimes what he shows me makes sense and sometimes I have to think about, and still don’t understand.

The myasthenia gravis that I have is progressive and only affects voluntary muscles, which includes breathing. I am now using a cane and easily get short of breath. I was frustrated and asked the Lord about being healed. I’m sure God put me onto magnesium to help out, and it truly has been a huge help, but I wanted the whole problem to go away.

After praying to the Lord to help me understand, I opened my Bible and read the first verse my eyes fell upon. It happened to be at the top of the right-hand column. It was already underlined and highlighted: 1 Corinthians 15:10
But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

The phrase I am what I am answered my concern. I jotted down the verse with its address so I would not forget it. I read the verse several times, trying to memorize it. When I looked back at the address I had written, I was surprised to see it was not the address of the verse I was reading. That made no sense since I had looked at the address to make sure I got it right! I guess the Lord still had more to say.

The verse address I had written happened to be for the top verse in the left-hand column on the same page: 1 Corinthians 14:40
Let all things be done decently and in order.

I felt like God was talking to me personally since I was asking for the help NOW. He had a plan and I needed to wait for his timing. This was a month or so ago and I still read both of those verses frequently. I keep the page marked so it’s easy to find. It has helped me tremendously to cope with my health problems. I trust God, but being patient is not easy for me.
