Summer solstice and a strawberry moon
It is currently our summer solstice, the longest days of the year where we experience the most daylight hours. Last night we were also treated to a rare strawberry moon. I snapped these pictures on my phone as we drove home from our cottage. The sky got progressively darker and the moon progressively smaller, but brighter, as it flitted amongst the trees and wispy clouds…
These pictures, from Flickr.com and travelandleisure.com respectively, are much easier to see why is it is called a strawberry moon:

Why have I never heard of a strawberry moon? Maybe it doesn’t appear that way, in our part of the world. I’ll have to look it up.
This was the first time I’ve heard it called strawberry. In the past I’ve heard it referred to simply as a “red moon” or “blood moon.” I like strawberry better.
Blood moon I have heard of! (Phew)
