First snow of the season in Ottawa, Ontario area

October 20, 2015

Gorgeous scenery. There are aspects of snow that I love–crispness in the air, beauty of the pristine whiteness, tasting the cold flakes on the tip of my tongue; but I’m thankful to be living in the south now where snow is a rarity.

LORIEB (Lor-ee-be), random thoughts

Yesterday, as we drove from Ottawa to our cottage In Ompah, Ontario we hit several snow squalls.  We drove through sunny skies and storm clouds and snow squalls.  The first squall hit us in Carleton Place…

When we reached the cottage, the lawn and trees were snow covered and the island offshore was barely visible…

then, a mere ten minutes later, the sun was out again…

The ride home was uneventful.

  1. I am so not ready for that yet😊

  2. Is anybody? I lived in Pittsburgh for years and hated driving in it. They were good about keep the streets clear, but there were still plenty of icy patches. The first year we lived in northern Ga, they got 6 inches of snow. They did nothing to clear streets or keep the ice down. Naturally, I was the one that slid off the road that went up the hill to the hospital. I took a lot of ribbing over that for a long time!
Every winter we lived there, it snowed and they did nothing. They kept saying they hardly ever got snow! After 6-7 years we moved to SC. In the 20 years we’ve been here, I’ve seen a frosting of snow once or twice that always melted by noon. That’s my preferred snow fall!
